Kirk Cousins tosses three touchdowns in Washington's preseason loss in Chicago

Kirk Cousins of Holland threw three fourth-quarter touchdown passes and nearly a come-from-behind win for Washington in NFL preseason action Saturday night.

The Chicago Bears held on for a 33-31 win at Soldier Field despite a Cousins-led charge of 21 points in the fourth quarter.

Robbie Gould's 57-yard field with 31 seconds remaining was the difference.

Cousins, a rookie from Michigan State and Holland Christian High School, completed 18-for-23 passes for a game-high 264 yards after replacing starter Robert Griffin III after halftime. The Bears' first-string defense had exited the game.

Cousins completed 9-of-22 passes for 74 yards and an interception in his first exhibition game against Buffalo last week.

Washington took a 31-30 lead with 2:04 remaining when an 85-yard, Cousins-led drive ended up with a Dezmon Briscoe 20-yard touchdown reception.

Cousins hit Aldrick Robinson on a 49-yard touchdown strike at 9:53 of the fourth quarter that cut Chicago's lead to 30-24.

Cousins started with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Niles Paul off a bootleg 1 minute, 49 seconds into the fourth quarter. It capped a 68-yard drive that covered 7:56.
