Trial delayed for Mass. man accused in terror plot (AP)

BOSTON ? A judge has granted a request by attorneys for a Massachusetts man accused of conspiring to kill American troops in Iraq to delay the start of his trial.

The trial of Tarek Mehanna of Sudbury is now set to begin Oct. 24, three weeks later than originally scheduled.

The judge says he doesn't agree that the original date would've hurt Mehanna's case, but prosecutors consented to the delay.

Mehanna's attorneys have said prosecutors didn't turn over evidence in time for them to prepare for the trial.

Prosecutors say they've consistently given the defense evidence throughout the case.

Prosecutors say Mehanna sought training in a terrorist camp and translated a publication on ways to wage Muslim holy war. The defense says his activities amounted to free speech.
