Holiday Homes Tour ? Woodford County Inside/Out & About

Members of the Woodford County Woman?s Club have put together a self-guided holiday homes tour, to be held December 8, 2012 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.? Tickets cost $15, with proceeds from this project used to support the club?s charitable interests, which include scholarships and providing coats and shoes for county children.

This year?s event features three historic homes and three modern homes all beautifully decorated for the season.

On the tour, you will find a Carpenter?s Gothic style home, built in the 1850?s with 6 rooms, 3 ? baths and 2,700 square feet of two-story living space.? This house was featured in a 2003 issue of Better Homes and Gardens magazine.?? You may also visit a cottage constructed in the spring of 1900 by Remus Brock, who owned a local flour mill.? Containing approximately 2,200 square feet, this charming house is of the Queen Anne influence with pine flooring, bulls eye door frames and original Italianate chandeliers. Another stop on the tour is a home built in 1996 in the McCowan?s Ferry neighborhood with 4300 square feet, three fireplaces (one outdoors), a media room, and an outdoor kitchen with living space and gardens.? This house displays a vast collection of Dept. 56 Dickens Village houses and North Pole Village houses, as well as numerous special Christmas trees.

On Lexington Street in Versailles, you will enjoy a quaint structure built in 1822 as the family home of James McConnell and his wife Elizabeth Viley McConnell. ??This property passed through heirs in 1852 to the George N. Wasserboeher family and remained in that family until 1936.? Descendants of this family remain in Woodford County today.? In 1956 the home became the Women?s Civic Center of Woodford County, Inc. ?and is now affectionately known as ?The Little House.?? Another home you will enter was built in 2002 with 3,077 square feet of living space.? The first floor has a den, master suite, 1 ? baths, large kitchen and dining area, office and cozy sunroom.? The second floor contains three extra-large bedrooms and a full bath.? Three fireplaces and hardwood floors make this home warm and cozy in these winter months.? We hear Santa will also be here to greet each of our guests.
